Completed in November 2022, the St Peter’s project in Glasgow’s West End is a sensitive blend of heritage restoration and contemporary urban housing. Delivered for Partick Housing Association, the development sits within a dense tenemental block and reimagines the site of the former St Peter’s School, which closed in 2013. The design retains and refurbishes the original south wing of the 1899 school building, complemented by a new build that mirrors the scale and rhythm of surrounding tenements.

The project provides 60 high-quality apartments for social and mid-market rent, alongside supported accommodation in partnership with SAMH (Scottish Association for Mental Health). All homes meet Housing for Varying Needs standards, and the development is designed to be tenure-blind—ensuring no visible distinction between different housing types and creating an inclusive, cohesive community.

Sustainability is at the heart of the scheme. The project achieved EcoHomes ‘Very Good’ and Silver Standard compliance through a combination of thermal efficiency, natural ventilation, low-carbon materials, and intelligent use of the sloping site to incorporate undercroft parking and dual-aspect flats. Secure cycle storage, excellent public transport links, and vibrant, light-filled communal spaces support active, healthy living.

St Peter’s represents a progressive model of sustainable, community-focused urban housing rooted in the preservation of local heritage.
