Set in a tranquil Glen near Fort William sits a redundant water treatment works. The structure primarily consists of two large rectangular concrete tanks discretely sunken into the landscape and a pump room also in concrete raising up approximately 2 metres from ground level. By maximising the re-use of the existing sunken concrete structures the project is inherently sustainable, providing thermal mass, shelter and mass insulation in the form of the surrounding ground at the same time.

The majority of glazing is orientated for passive solar gains, whilst wood burning stoves and evacuated solar tubes supply additional heating and hot water load requirements. All materials where possible are to achieve an A-rating from the BRE green guide and sourced as locally as possible providing support to the local construction industry.
